The world of technology lost a great man today. As I’m typing on my Mac, I’m thankful that Steve Jobs was around to help make computing easier and accessible for the masses. He and everyone he’s ever worked with have made a difference in my life by giving their best with the desire to change the world for the better. How many of us make it our mission to do that?
This quote reminds me of the innumerable times I’ve had clients tell me that they are frustrated by complacent co-workers who only want to do the minimum to get a wage. Time and time again, I’ve referred to this quote to inspire clients to keep pushing for their vision of excellence in the work place. Sometimes, we allow ourselves to get trapped by negative thinking people and the illusion that we’ll be at our jobs forever. When we’re faced with the reality that our time with people and at our work is limited, we must decide between wasting the opportunity or transforming it for the better, serving our purpose for ourselves and for others while we’re there and long after we’re gone.
Are you the yardstick of quality at your work? If not, what can you do to give the best of yourself and inspire others?
