Mr J takes out the trash before heading to work. In order to take out the trash, one must exit the building and open the waste room door with a master key. Mr J, in a rush, forgot that he left his house keys (which are not attached to his truck keys) in the door and went off to work as usual. It was after a full day of work and digging through his backpack for his keys to open our front door that he realized his actions.
Mr J was so upset about losing his keys that he kept asking me to consult with Spirit as to their whereabouts. By tapping into the energy of the keys (by visualizing them in my mind’s eye), the only consolation that I could offer him was, “They’re in an office, on a desk, and they’re safe. I really don’t think we have anything to worry about. They’re not lost. They’ll turn up.”
He was so worried about someone gaining access to our building and our home that he slept on the couch to watch the door and then went to change the locks the next day. He put a sign on the community bulletin board, but nobody called in. I assumed the garbage man picked them up and they were in the office, but Mr J never bothered to call fearing that someone, more specifically the vagrants that spend their days wandering our beach community, had stolen the keys. We let it go and hoped that the keys would turn up.
A few weeks later, Mr J was on our rooftop with a gathering of neighbors enjoying a pot-luck meal, when the subject of keys serendipitously came up. Our neighbor said, “The garbage man told me he found someone’s keys in the door of the trash room, but I didn’t know who they belonged to, so he told me that he’d left them in the company’s main office.”
Mr J was in a state of shock and awe. He ran downstairs where I was putting our son to bed to tell me what happened, “Your Spirit was right all along! My keys are waiting for me in the sanitation company’s office!”
I was hardly surprised, but elated that my husband found his keys (more specifically the fancy key chain that he treated himself for his birthday) and that he found yet another reason to believe in Spirit and God’s greatness.
It’s great that Spirit can help us find what was lost, to materialize our visions into a reality, and to give us a sense of purpose in life. But for me, Spirit’s signs are simply more than guideposts of getting what we need or want out of life – they’re reminders of God’s greatness and the Christ consciousness we employ in exercising our freedom of choice to create in communion with our Creator. This is what we must always remember when employing our intuitive abilities in our day to day life – Spirit works with us to live in and be examples of Love (God).
Finding Mr J’s physical keys were a way of reminding us to use our spiritual keys to opening the door – specifically our illusion of separateness – to our Creator. Spirit isn’t a party trick or some tool to get was we want or need. Spirit’s gifts are reminders of our truest natures as powerful creators. If we forget those keys, then well, we’ll just have to wait for someone to help us out and let us in.
