Yesterday, my daughter was watching cartoons. Due to the noise level in the house I decided to turn down the volume of the show to a more reasonable level. My daughter was not too happy about that decision which was entirely unilateral.
To express her displeasure, she began to raise her voice and wail about the inequity of my decision. She cried, “I can’t hear!”
I said, “Instead of crying, try being quiet and you’ll see that you can hear the TV just fine.”
After a moment of fitful raging, she finally calmed down to where her own noise levels went down and the sound of the TV went up.
It was at this point that I realized that we all do this when it comes to hearing spirit. We all cry and wail claiming that we can’t hear the voice of God. We say that God has abandoned us and that we are alone in all the noise of life. But this is the thing: if we just quiet down and to be still enough to where the sound of our own voices in our head doesn’t drown out the other sounds around us, we might just hear the voice of God and the singing of angels.
In our egotism we just love the sound of our own voice and think that it’s so great that it’s the only voice that we must hear if anything is to go right. But this is why it’s important to be selfless. More specifically “self – less”. If we reduce the sound of our mind’s thinking and just be quiet we could actually hear the voice of God clearly giving us all of the insight and inspiration we need to move forward in life and to heal our wounds.
Instead, we cry and wail and say, “I can’t hear God therefore God has abandoned me.” We are so focused on the sound of our own voice repeating false beliefs and fallacious scripts that we have fallen deaf to the Divine.
Psalms 46 verse 10 says, “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the Nations I will be exalted in the Earth.” Not only if we are still we will be held up on a high level but we will also be, as defined, in a state of extreme happiness and bliss.
So give it a try. Be quiet and listen to the still small voice that seeks to connect with you. That voice carries with it messages of peace and understanding meant just for you.
